19/10/17 Narrative: Object primer
I decided to draw my cup for the object primer because I like its modernist (or post-modern?) form. It is quite streamlined as it has a straight, sleek body. It is eye-catching red with a black cup rim and made of metal (tin).
I tried to be more experimental and drew the cups in different types of paper, such as on A3 (exaggerated scale) or on Chinese red paper for calligraphy. The effect of the Chinese red paper turned out to be quite striking, especially when I didn't need to decorate the cup further by adding more colour to it. I think the lines can be more expressive for the bottom left corner cup; perhaps the cup can be less recognizable as a cup but more as a shape. I will definitely experiment more with "raw" and expressive, unrefined line-making.
Others thought most of them are quite clear in informing the viewers what perspective each drawings has shown, apart from "showing the object's function" (top right) and "draw the object however you wish" bottom right).
I think putting up our work on the walls is quite a helpful exercise, especially since we could critique our work more effectively when we observe from a distance.
I am impressed by another cup primer someone else did, especially the "cup stamps" which created a pattern of the cup like a block/ rock. In all four pieces she has experimented with showing the transparency of the cup.
