Monoprinting

My Work

I find it quite a spontaneous activity as the speed of printing, dryness of the ink and the paper texture all affects the outcome. I am most pleased with the unintentional on the bottom right corner, as the cut-out spaces show the silhouette of a window. For me it is hard to print a very refined image and I usually end up with grey splotches. It's interesting to combine the etchings and the mono-prints together to create rich textures, such as on the beige paper.

Other People's Work

I like the monoprint plants as they give a nice contrast with the white background. The two plants are also made distinctly different to create variety, with one pointy and slim, and the other round and fat.

The portraits on the top left corner are very interesting because they have succinct forms and lines with dotted facial features, which establishes them as simple human forms.

I like the repetition of the arm on the left, and line drawings mixed with greyish textures, giving depth to the monoprints. On the right someone made a spartan?

Monoprints can be quite graphic and clearly defined as well. I really like the splotchy texture on the bottom right, which reminds me of a milk cow.

I also favour simplicity of a piece of work. The mis-prints (the stains) make the prints look more interesting.
