Natural Selection
Collecting is a primal, instinctive human activity, starting from when our ancestors forged for food and collectibles of value.
I find it true that the act of collecting, or having a collection of something, is appealing to me. For instance, I keep a notebook of leaf samples I have collected which I label individually.

The walls are very ancient.
This is an amazing collection of bird eggs. To think that so many of them have been collected throughout the years by bird egg collector and enthusiasts...and these aren't even all of them!
However, it is also slightly upsetting to think of the number of bird lives that had been extinguished.
Now I kind of understand why there were enthusiasts for bird eggs: they are simply exemplary! Each specimen looks exotic and unique, almost like dragon eggs. I have never seen any other egg that is not brown or white (or maximum, quail). I would have thought they were fake.

They still look like fake easter eggs to me. This further shows the power of nature, its ability to produce natural patterns and textures on eggs like works of art. Now I understand why these fragile shells are desirable.
