Barber Barber

I was quite interested in barber shops because they are pre-dominantly men-only and have their own mystique. Jo encouraged me to get access to the shop by going in together and asking if I could record the environment with my drawing. Gladly they agreed!

This is a rather modern barber shop (which I later realized is a chain store), so it would be interesting if I managed to look into older, more traditional and family run ones. The interior is extravagant and the customers seem to be very well serviced, even though there isn't much of an exchange of words between the barber and the customer.

Assorted hair gels and oils near the corner where I am standing at.

Part of the flooring must have been retained and the chairs do have more rustic metal curvatures compared to its modern interior.

The refined illustration I did in the end.

They also have a secret basement bar for when customers have to wait for their barbers to be ready. This has a very "Kingsmen" feel: a classy hidden meetup spot for agents and underground organizations. Just imagining!

Black and white portraits of suspects and murderers?

The padded room added secrecy to the environment as if secrets are told here not to be eavesdropped on. The leather adds a sense of novelty and maturity. It was actually slightly terrifying to stay there alone, but I could imagine gentlemen having polite chats over the bar counter when they are enjoying waiting for their trim.
