The Black Store

The Black Store is a concept created by a group of artists and creatives in Hong Kong, where they tried to open a store which sells their work for 10 cents (1p in pounds). They first organized an exhibition to kickstart the event for online exposure, then ultimately opened the store for one month.
There are murals and large sculptures as well as small objects and cards.
It reminds me of our Spitalfields project because the Black Store also has to utilize a space in interaction with the public, whereas we have to do the similar with the market space. Their 10 cents concept reflects the stinginess of Hong Kong people of the practical mindset: "if I can't use it, why should I buy it?" Therefore, they have set the price so low to the extent that buying work almost equates to having it for free. Does creativity have a price? What is appreciating an artwork?
