The Science Gallery: Addiction

The exhibition “Hooked” explores modern addiction in various forms, such as substance abuse, addiction to technology and screens etc. I find it surprisingly relevant for my interest in “sugar” in my comic and essay writing, and the relationship/ attachment we have with technology.

The most memorable work is a 30 mins long dystopian film exploring a society where people eat joy pills to stay happy, as the society expects you to be happy and perfect. The grotesque quality of the film adds a sense of unsettling hyper reality, an alternative future of our consumerist society where potentially everyone is controlled via the consumption of goods.
